First post and what this blog is about...

Well, this is the first post on our travel blog. How exciting! The name and purpose of this blog are derived from the place and event for which it is inspired, our honeymoon and the All-American Highway. I am not a professional blogger nor am I an English major. This will come out here as-is in, hopefully, laymen terms. My hope is to connect you all to my and our experiences and maybe even draw you into creating new adventures with us!

For those who don't know, Kris and I are getting married on May 17th, 2014. We are looking forward to the wedding and having our friends and loved ones join us for the celebration. That part will probably be largely omitted from this blog as we have separate and more special ways of sharing that with the world.

The inspiration for starting this travel blog, if I am completely honest, comes from reading about other folks' adventures on http://www.advrider.com and one of my favorite TV series, "Long Way Down." and "Long Way Round." starring Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman. If you haven't seen it, even if you don't ride bikes, it's worth checking out for the adventure and friendship these two share.

For our honeymoon, we plan to ride our street bikes, Nathan's 2009 Yamaha FZ6R and Kris' 2011 Kawasaki Ninja 250R. Since Kris is a new-ish rider and her bike is small, my bike will serve as pack mule while she only has to worry about her basics, phone, wallet, charger, spare gloves, etc...I will carry our clean clothes, toiletries, first aid, tire repair kits, and other odds and ends. Kris doesn't know this yet, but I'm limiting her to one pair of shoes excluding her riding boots! These are all of the things I could think of for a 2 week motorcycle trip while staying in hotels along the way. We may try motorcycle camping some time in the future but this trip was meant to be a relaxing get-away on bikes.

We'll be starting in Portland Or. on May 19th and ending up in San Diego somewhere around May 26th, riding down the Pacific Coast Highway. While it's an adventure, and we are not sure where all we will stop, some possible adventures await in The Redwood Forest, and Glass Beach.  We are also excited to ride our motorcycles across the Golden Gate Bridge and the spend the night with Mom and Dad Trigg. From there, our adventure will continue to Redondo Beach, where we will spend a couple of nights, and really enjoy the famous Snake, Mullholland Drive.  Perhaps we will continue down to San Diego before turning around! From Southern California, we will ride up through Yosemite, spend a night with Kris' cousin Rosie, ride through Mt. Shasta and then Crater Lake. These windy roads will conclude our honeymoon adventure.  Our hope is to journal and take lots of pictures and video, and share the adventure with you all!
